We had a lovely evening with friends in the courtyard, which was a lovely setting, and the service was friendly and helpful. But opinions around the table were mixed, and we wouldn't return because it was far too expensive. The haddock and chips came with lovely homemade mushy peas and tartare sauce, though I really didn't like the skin left on the haddock. The vegetarian choice was very limited, just a celeriac steak. My husband asked to have the risotto starter as a main. It was tasty, but came on a side plate, so I wasn't sure if it was a main, and we didn't check the bill to see what we were charged. The custard tart was soggy, with slimy strawberries. At £23, the fish and chips was over the top.

We had fresh cookies when we arrived, and they were great. The bar food was lovely, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice and absolutely spotless. Highly recommend, we loved our weekend here.

The food was fantastic, and the bedroom was really comfortable with everything we needed. Fresh cookies on arrival were delicious. The whole place was beautifully decorated, with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We found this special pub through Sawday’s. General Manager Simon and the rest of the staff were professional and super friendly. I'd recommend staying here to anyone.

The chicken and ham pie was the star, a proper pastry case packed full of chunks of ham, chicken and leek, nothing like the usual tinned meat sauce under a puff pastry lid. Go for the pie if nothing else! We planned a late lunch before the Christmas lights experience at nearby Stourhead. It was a busy Sunday lunchtime, so service was affected, but the staff were professional and the food very good. The burgers looked amazing, and the range of beers was nice. I think the puddings were good too.
