A warning if you're booking with dogs: dogs are allowed, but I wouldn't call it pet friendly. They can't go on the furniture, in bedrooms or upstairs, and you're expected to remove all their hair from carpets and furniture before leaving. The garden is enclosed but not secure for a small dog, and dogs have to be exercised outside it. There's a doorless outbuilding in the garden full of rubbish and old furniture. The private woodland is steep and very slippery, so it's only suitable if you're fit and very able. I also saw slug trails in the lounge every morning and evening, which can be harmful to dogs. There are no blinds or curtains on the windows apart from in the bedrooms. After I parked outside the door and unpacked on arrival, two cardboard signs appeared on the hedge opposite the next morning, outside the owner's property, saying I'd parked in the wrong place. He'd spoken to me through the kitchen window the night before and could have just told me. He looked in through that window whenever he was outside, and I didn't feel I had any privacy. The washing machine was covered in hairs, so I couldn't use it, and the first two cups I took from the cupboard weren't clean. The roof leaked in several places, with bowls set out to catch the drips. It's a big, very warm property and could be fantastic if the owners put in more effort.

The bedrooms were excellent and the view over Irt valley was very good. We would stay again. I did feel the place needed more attention to detail: the paintwork wasn't finished very well, the fireplace colour could be improved, and the windows needed cleaning. Towels should be included in the price, in my view.

The cottage is stunning and feels like a tranquil retreat, with access to 8acres of woodland right on the doorstep. Dave, the owner, was welcoming and helpful, and the accommodation is spacious. We booked through Sally's cottage's, and it being dog friendly was an added bonus.

There’s lots of wildlife in the garden, and the central heating is unbelievable. The place was bigger than we expected. Some furniture could do with updating, and there were spots of mould around the windows. We'll be going back.

The beds were comfortable and the place was well equipped. We had no problems at all, and the owners are nearby if you need them. It's really close to wasdale, and the birds at the feeders were great. We brought bird food with us, and hopefully next time we'll see a red squirrel too. Fantastic all round.
