We stayed two nights to walk up Scafell Pike, and the location was brilliant, just a 20 minute drive to Wasdale car park. The food was so good, fresh, tasty, great value and served in huge portions that we didn't eat anywhere else. The staff were lovely and friendly. The chickens, geese, peacocks and gorgeous cats were entertaining too. The hotel was cosy and relaxing, with all the amenities you could need after a hard trek and long drive. The rooms were a little dated but very clean. We'd happily stay again and would highly recommend this unassuming place.

We came to Irton hall for a long weekend on friday, hoping to escape the hustle and bustle, and Wow, what a stunning, history packed location. Broughton house was gorgeous, large and spacious, and our dog winston loved the scenic walks. Coming back to light the log burner with the logs provided was pure bliss. The restaurant's menu changes daily, with a wonderful choice made using the best ingredients, and the portions are generous. We loved all the wildlife around the grounds, including geese, peacocks and chickens roaming about. Guests can help themselves to free, freshly laid eggs, and they also have rescued pigs, which says a lot about the love for animals here. Exactly the weekend we needed to recharge. We can't wait to return!

Those long beach walks and hikes around the area were a real treat, and there were loads of pubs to stop at along the way. Irton Hall itself is a stunning manor, the food was top tier, and Emma and the rest of the staff made us feel so welcome. We’d just come home from four days there and I already wanted to turn the car around. It’s dog friendly too, which was a bonus. Such a magical weekend.

The Pele Tower was amazing, and the games room was a favourite. I spent a few nights there over New Year with more than ten friends, children included. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was spectacular. It’s easily the best place I’ve stayed in the Lakes. I’ll be back next year :)

The Valentine’s meal was outstanding. Every course, starter, main and dessert, was the best meal out I’ve had in ages. And despite how busy they were, the two women working that night were excellent. They covered reception, the bar, waiting tables and even brought us heaters. They deserve more support, because it felt like there should have been more staff. Our main problem was Room 3 when we arrived on a cold, grey, rainy day. It felt like a fridge, and the radiator was off. I turned it on, but it gave out very little heat, and the bathroom was freezing. We asked for a portable heater and one arrived within 15 minutes. It was still chilly later, with cold air coming from the bathroom, so we asked for another. That did the trick, and we had a cosy night, but for the first two hours we couldn’t take our coats off. We enjoyed our stay, and the hotel and grounds are lovely. The cold room on arrival did spoil things a bit.
