Ferry Lodge

It was inexpensive and the WiFi was good, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The sheets were dirty, the instant coffee milk had gone off, and the tap water ran brown for a while, which made me question the sign saying it was safe to drink. Before we arrived, the TV had fallen off the wall and was lying face down on the floor, blocking one side of the bed. We didn’t dare touch it because a sign ominously warned we’d have to pay if it came off the wall. The signs also made the atmosphere feel unfriendly, especially one telling guests not to write a review when tired from travel or arguing with their travel companions. Another says, "It costs nothing to be nice". That didn’t feel very nice, and the same sign says the owners "are doing our best". Maybe they are, but the overall experience still wasn’t one I’d recommend.

The hotel itself is small and nicely placed, but our arrival was a mess. The owner wasn't there, and the key safe code she sent had the last two digits swapped by mistake. We were outside with two exhausted kids, couldn't get the lock open, and couldn't reach her by phone. A kind neighbour tried calling her mobile and then her brother so we could get inside. Without that help, we would have had to find somewhere else, which might have been impossible or very expensive. After about 45 minutes, the owner called back and asked why I hadn't checked my emails or tried harder. She didn't accept that she'd sent the wrong code and was angry with the neighbour for helping us. I handed my phone to the neighbour, who apologized several times for contacting her brother. I felt awful for her. The owner never apologized, even after checkout. Honestly, I was glad she still wasn't around then. Double check the code before you arrive, or try to check in when the owner is there and can keep her temper.

The dining room needed a proper clean, and there were cobwebs on the cups. The bedding was dirty, with a pubic hair on the sheets, and the furniture needs replacing. We were told we'd get a refund, then they denied it. Don't book here.

Getting to and from the train and ferry station on foot was easy. The self check-in and checkout were quick and convenient, and I'd happily stay here again.
