Even as a complete beginner, I came away from the two-day silver smithing course with Julian Livingstone at The Old Kennels having made several pieces of jewellery I really love. The course was relaxed but also very professional and informative. Tracy was a perfect hostess in an amazing location. Look out for the courses advertised on The Old Kennels website, they’re well worth it. Highly recommended!

I’ve been taking courses at The Old Kennels for years and love the tutors, the setting and the courses themselves. There’s always a fantastic range to choose from, and I look forward to the next one every time. Tracey is a fantastic host, and nothing is too much trouble.

By the end of the day, the old chair I thought was past its best was almost back to its former beauty. My friend and I had a fabulous time at the Cane Seating workshop at The Old Kennels. Brenda was a superb, patient tutor. We started with a warm welcome and good coffee, then headed to the workshop with the items we’d brought along. Tracy put together a delicious lunch with homemade breads, sea salted baked potatoes and all the dishes everyone brought to share. We sat around the huge farmhouse table in the sun room, entertained by the alpacas and the other students’ stories. We’ll both be back for more.

I left feeling so happy and proud of what I’d made. Tracey was amazing, and I tried lampwork glass bead making for the first time. Honestly, not bad for a first go. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

A quiet valley, gentle alpacas, and some really interesting people make this a lovely place to spend a day. I found it thoughtful and welcoming, with none of that “flippy-flappy hippy-happy” feel. You can enjoy yourself while learning skills you didn’t even know were a thing, and meet people on a similar wavelength. Pure mental self-indulgence.
