Harebell cottage is a beautiful holiday home at the foot of Curbar and Baslow Edge. The decor and furnishings are lovely, and the house is far better equipped than the website suggests, especially the kitchen, with its built in coffee machine and cupboards full of crockery and gadgets. We booked direct, and the hosts were helpful with the booking and advice on what to do. They even kindly lent us a bouldering mat. With two en-suites, it suited us and our teenage children perfectly. We left feeling well exercised and rebalanced, and hope we get the chance to visit again.

The owners are super kind and friendly, and the cottage is close to great walks and restaurants. It’s in a beautiful location and has absolutely everything you need for a great Peak District stay. Five stars don’t feel like enough. We really enjoyed our time here and would love to return.

The views were lovely, with stone cliffs and many trails visible from the property. You can walk to hiking paths in the national park, and there are several nearby tea rooms with fantastic cakes and sweets. It’s a quaint village too, with the Milkman bringing milk in the morning and horses grazing in the field behind the house. The bedroom skylights have remote controlled blinds, so you can open them to watch the stars. Inside, this classic Peak District cottage is built from the region’s ‘Grit Stone’. Upstairs are two bedrooms with queen beds and en-suites, sleeping up to five. The pillows were good, the duvets and blankets thick and cosy, and there were warm carpets, underfloor heating and radiators. Downstairs, there’s a family sized lounge and a full kitchen with a microwave, oven, stove, coffee machine, fridge, freezer and tea facilities. There’s also a washing machine. The spacious couch and wood burner made a lovely place to settle with a book and watch the flames. The host was very knowledgeable and helped us plan a morning walking trail that ended at a tearoom for cake. We’d recommend it.

There was plenty of wood for the woodburner, and the kitchen was really lovely. We had WiFi, a spot to hang coats and put bags and shoes, plus a lovely cake on arrival. The comfy sofa and beds were great, and having a good selection of books by the television was perfect.

A lovely cottage right among the Peak District climbing spots. There’s loads else nearby too, from hiking and cycling to food and drinks, plus astonishing Chatsworth House.
