Gainsborough Lodge

We’ll be back at Gainsborough Lodge. The staff were really helpful, and thanks for the hospitality, Chiragh Bhai! The rooms were clean and nice, with hot water and what looked like a new shower. Breakfast was excellent value, and the price for the stay was very reasonable. It’s handy for Gatwick too, about twenty minutes to the airport by public transport. Highly recommend it if you’re travelling to or from there.

We got a great price, and there’s parking too. The room was small but had what we needed, especially that seriously powerful shower. We used a nearby cafe for breakfast, so I can’t comment on the hotel’s breakfast. Gatwick is very close, and even arriving after midnight we could check ourselves in, then check out at 10am. The service was hard to fault, though it might’ve been nice to see someone at reception when we arrived or left.

The room was clean and warm, and suited what we needed. Check-in was easy, and the lodge is only 6 minutes from the airport. There was, unfortunately, a bad smell in the room and we couldn’t figure out where it came from. Not ideal, which is why it’s only 3 stars. Avoid Room 21.

The fan was much appreciated because the rooms get quite warm, and the hotel and dining room were both very clean. They were helpful before our stay when we told them our check-in and check-out times. You do have to eat your food in the dining room, though I understand that our room wasn’t very big. Simple, affordable and convenient for London Gatwick. I’d stay again before a flight.
