We only stayed one night and didn't have breakfast. The five minutes we spent with staff were perfectly fine, but the room was a problem. There were no towels, the bathroom smelled terrible the whole time, and the wallpaper was peeling. Water pipes or plumbing made a lot of noise during the night, especially in the morning. The bed felt like nothing but springs, with an uncomfortable lump of metal in your back. By morning, several big black midge-like flies had collected in the room. Parking isn't really available in any meaningful way. There are two bays, but you can't reserve one and can only use it for 11 hours at a time. If you're staying more than one night, bringing a car may not be a good idea.

Breakfast is meant to run from 7 to 9, but don't arrive after 8: I found no clean table and had to wait 20 minutes for one to be cleared and served. My poached eggs were overcooked. The room hadn't been cleaned because the maid was afraid of dogs, which surprised me for a hotel advertising itself as pet-friendly. I also had to ask for fresh towels on the second day because none had been left. The toilet seat was broken, though they did replace it. The rooms need updating, and it was very expensive for what we got.

The sheets were clean, at least, but everything else left us disappointed. Staff seemed uninterested in customer satisfaction and brushed off our complaints. Breakfast wasn't included even though the rate had been advertised as inclusive. We asked for a quiet room and got one on the first floor, two doors from the lift and right by the car park. Guests going out woke us around midnight, then returning guests and people shouting outside kept waking us from 4am until about 7am. We only managed to sleep again until 8:30. It seemed to be full of clubbers that night. The room decor was poor, with peeling wallpaper and chipped paint around the doors and windows. Only one window opened for fresh air. There was one bedside lamp for three beds, a cramped shower with doors that stuck both ways, and a toilet seat that didn't seem to fit the bowl. I can't see how this place qualifies for four stars under any recognised scheme, and I'll check with the AA about that claimed rating.

We left a complaint form in June 2017 and waited for a reply before posting a review, but there's been no response, apology or recognition of what a mitigated disaster the stay was. The staff were friendly, but my friend and I had a real 'Faulty 'Towers experience. My room was like an oversized cupboard, and its unusual tap sent out a stronger spray than the shower. The bedside lampshade was burnt and the lamp clearly unsafe. I handed it to staff, but never got a replacement. My friend had to switch rooms because of serious shower trouble, then ended up accepting that using it would flood the bedroom. We'd hoped for a good breakfast. Instead, each of us got one lice of toast in a basket, which seemed odd, and the vegetarian continental breakfast was appalling.

The rooms have TVs and do the job, and breakfast is good. The shower wasn't great, though it was usable enough to wash. If you arrive after 4pm, the location works well for parking: you can pay to park on the road outside the hotel through to the next morning.
