Hotel Langfords Brighton

The staff were welcoming, and there was a really nice pool table, though the bar had nothing in it. The beach wasn't far, but the pier was probably about a mile away. Parking outside the hotel was so badly designed that we ended up leaving the car about two miles away and walking. We had a seagull outside pecking at the window for bread. As for room 510, avoid it. In the cleaning supplies room, they left the window open and a filthy pigeon got inside. We found two knives in a drawer, the TV didn't work, and the spare room door kept opening. The drawers also got stuck together, and the Wi-Fi was bad.

The room was freezing, and the towels weren't clean. There was no Wi-Fi in the room, even though it was advertised, and the shower wasn't very clean either. Loud guests were being asked to leave by reception at checkout time, which disturbed us too. The worst part was the night receptionist. He was rude, looked bored and slouched in his chair. They didn't take cards for parking, so he sent us to a cash machine, then had no change. He asked us to leave £20 instead of £15. When I asked him to note it for the daytime staff, he said I was making a fuss over £5. We left a night early because the atmosphere was unpleasant and found another hotel nearby. This morning they called to say we hadn't handed in the key and would be charged for a replacement. We told them we had returned it and spoken to the man at the desk. They checked the CCTV and hung up without apologizing. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you really only need somewhere to sleep.

We'd booked this because we were going to a special birthday party nearby, and the hotel looked lovely from outside. But the room was filthy and smelled of smoke, possibly because someone had smoked on the balcony before us. The heating didn't work, so it was cold, and parts were missing from the radiator. A plug socket was broken and bathroom accessories were missing. There was even someone else's underwear wedged behind the chest of drawers. The desk staff weren't friendly either. We couldn't sleep in that room, so at 11pm we gave up, left the hotel and drove home to London. A total waste of our hard-earned £125.

We spent a week here in June and July and had a really good stay. The location and view were great, and the bedroom was a good size with a very comfortable bed. The staff were nice. The room was clean enough, though the bathroom was on the small side and hadn't been cleaned properly.
