We slept peacefully and the view over the River Bure from our room was wonderful. Dinner and breakfast were both very enjoyable, and the restaurant has the same lovely river outlook. Still, we paid £554 for two nights with breakfast and didn’t think the stay was worth that price. The full amount had also been taken from our account before we arrived, which felt unusual. The welcome book looked worn, with stained pages, spelling errors and loose sheets. Our room was described as cosy, but I’m not sure it really counted as the “suite” named on the door. There were no dressing gowns or slippers, the bathroom had a shower over the bath, and the complimentary snacks amounted to two packets of biscuits. We’d asked for a window table at dinner, but the restaurant hadn’t been told. In reception, the seating area seemed to double as a gathering spot for the hotel family and staff, and doing business from the sofa by reception came across as a bit unprofessional. The first impression from the car park wasn’t great either. We did have a lovely couple of days away, but at that price we probably wouldn’t stay at Hotel Wroxham again.

Afternoon tea was a real highlight, with a great twist that impressed me as someone who’s had plenty of it. The crockery is charming too, from a Dutch company. We skipped the mains and ordered three starters instead, and they were wow. The food and service in the restaurant were amazing, and the chef deserves the credit. Our Bridge Suite looked out over the river from its balcony and was spotlessly clean. The huge bed had crisp, bright white ironed linen, and all the little details felt just right, from the pillows and cushions to the slippers, soft towels and Elemis toiletries. The hotel has its own lovely atmosphere, and everyone seemed welcome, whether they had a dog or kids, were dressed up or had come in walking clothes. We arrived yesterday and the whole experience has been perfect. I honestly can’t think of anything to critique.

The food was great, and so were the staff and location. The children's menu was good, and having a colouring competition with a lollypop was such a nice touch. We were practically drowning in cushions, though, and children's cutlery would be helpful if they can provide it. Otherwise, great stuff!

We had two visits with groups of more than 12 people, and couldn’t get the bills split by party. It made paying more difficult for us, and I can’t see why it has to be that way. Maybe they could learn from hotels like the Hoxton. Service has slipped over the many times I’ve been here. On my latest visit, the bartender seemed more focused on finishing the cleanup than serving customers waiting for drinks, including me wanting a coffee. Staff should put the customer first instead of acting like they just want to go home. We’ll try again and see if things improve.

A wonderfully quiet stay, with spacious, high quality rooms and the best views over the river. Breakfast and other food were delicious, the staff were friendly, and there was plenty of parking. One of the best hotel stays I’ve had in the UK, and great value for money. Highly recommended!
