Metro Inns Huddersfield

The location is really handy, close to a well-stocked spa shop, a Shell fuel station and Starbucks. There’s also a nice steak house opposite. The price and location were very good, and reception staff were perfectly pleasant. Our room, 105, was tatty, though, and the beds were very springy and not very comfortable. The carpet and upholstery smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, which was unpleasant. Getting hot water in the shower took a lot of fine tuning because it was temperamental. It did the job for us, but it could be much better, starting with a deep clean.

The sheets and towels were clean, but that was about the only positive. We booked because there were seven of us and we needed somewhere cheap, and we didn’t expect the place to feel so neglected. The reception carpet was stained and covered in leaves, and the corridor was dirtier still and smelled bad. Our rooms smelled too. We had three rooms to compare. Room 105 had no minifridge, and its bathroom had hair in the tub drain and a neon light hanging at an angle. In room 107, there were dead spiders stuck to the scratched walls, and the bathroom floor had a scratch covered with tape. Room 108 had no knob for turning on the shower, and its net curtain was scratched. All the rooms had old, stained sofas and armchairs. The bed was really uncomfortable, with springs you could feel. Our mattress had a hole and had turned yellow. The bathroom lighting in 105 was so poor that I couldn’t get a clear picture of the hair, even with my phone flash. Honestly, a big no.

For a budget stay in a good location, Metro Inns is easy to recommend. The price was very reasonable, and having a 24-hour garage next door was handy for picking up refreshments. The facilities were fine and about what I’d expect at a 2-star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Good price for basic, no-frills accommodation. It was a bit tatty around the edges in summer 2025. There’s a shop on site, and a pub and restaurant about a 15-minute walk away along a main road.
