The Royal Hotel Hull

The staff were friendly, but that couldn’t save the experience. At a distance, the historic building and its architecture look magnificent. Closer up, there are lots of problems, some small, that add up to a very disappointing stay. My room was tired, with air conditioning that didn’t work, a window that wouldn’t shut completely, two broken hairdryers and old, smelly towels. Breakfast was very disappointing too. The English breakfast buffet wasn’t good, and the layout was poor. Even small things were a problem, like plates hidden at the back under a heat lamp, so you almost burned your hand reaching for one.

The room was a good size for me, and I was given a quiet section as requested. The staff were accommodating. I enjoyed my stay and appreciated being able to adjust the heating. It was nice to have tea and coffee in the room as well. The place felt a little dated, but overall it was a good experience.

The room was small, but clean and comfortable, and the staff helped us find it when we struggled. Check-in was easy, and the bar was pleasant with reasonably priced drinks. Being right beside the train station was especially handy. We’d definitely come back.

The tired decor and hard mattress would need sorting before I’d stay again. The window was propped open with a stick, and the overflow leaked. On the plus side, it was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was good value. The central location was great. I’d consider returning after a refurbishment and new mattresses.
