We booked seven nights at Hartland Lodge through Hoseasons online, but the bed was so uncomfortable that we couldn't sleep. The lodge was empty, and when we asked Hoseasons for help, they just told us to call the owners. I'd already tried, and found out the lodge was now owned by the banks, so there was no answer from the owners. We asked to move to another empty lodge, but they said that wasn't possible and told us to keep trying the owners. I'm livid. It was a waste of money and what was meant to be a relaxing week away.

We spent a week here in June 2024, and the accommodation met all our needs. It was comfortable, well priced, and Justin was a friendly, helpful host. The village and farmland views were stunning, and you can walk to two local pubs. Beaches nearby, with Woolacombe and other larger ones just a short drive away. We'd definitely recommend it and book again.

The lodge was a peaceful base for exploring North Devon, with plenty of space, good equipment, and a lovely shower. We visited in November, and although there was no central heating, the heaters warmed it up quickly and made it cosy. A car is strongly advised because of the steep terrain and rural setting. There are some nice walks nearby for anyone happy to walk, and Babbacombe village was picturesque, with a small shop and pub. Be aware that the steps are steep and can get slippery when wet, so the place isn't ideal if you have mobility issues.

The cabins were basic and not especially comfortable, and although the surfaces looked clean, there was nowhere to store food apart from the fridge. The free WiFi didn't work. We asked about it and were told he was having trouble, but heard nothing more after that first enquiry. The grounds and setting were beautiful, but the lodge description wasn't very reliable. Our decking was just a small patch of level grass, and the kitchen in our cabin wasn't the one shown.

It's a lovely, quiet spot with incredible views and lots of room to walk in the forest. No amusement, drink bar, or shouting kids, which was nice. But the lodges need refurbishing and a better clean. I know it's a pet-friendly site, but the sofa and chair were covered in stains, there was dog hair under the bed and all through the vacuum, and the oven and fridge needed a deep clean. We had dogs too, but those things still need sorting. There was damp on the bedroom ceiling as well. The WiFi barely worked, maybe 10% of the time. Connecting each cabin by LAN might be easier. Still a very good place.
