The common room is large, and there’s a small kitchen for cooking and storing food. Bring a lock for the bag lockers, or you can hire one. It’s under five minutes from the bus and train stations and the Co-op. I’ve stayed here twice for a night while passing through. The staff are really friendly, and everything was clean. The women’s bathroom had plenty of showers and toilets, even on the night I was told the hostel was full. The mattresses are pretty hard and the bunks shake when the person above moves, though that’s normal hostel stuff. For the price it’s good value, and earplugs help. I slept reasonably well both times. Out of season, you might get a room to yourself like I did. There was plenty of space.

It’s only a couple of minutes on foot from the bus station, and the town is handy too. Reception is open from 2:30 to 8 pm. The rooms and showers are good for the price, and there’s a little kitchen and lounge. You meet all sorts of people in a hostel, some nice and some just strange. A great stay if you’re mainly there to sleep.

I was really looking forward to the room, especially since this seemed to be one of the few hostels with a locker big enough for luggage. But the windows didn’t seem to shut properly, and smoke filled the room all night. I had to keep stepping outside to give my lungs a break. Very disappointing.

For less than £20, I stayed two nights and found the room and bed good. The town was right nearby, with the train station just a few yards away and the bus station close too. Showers are a must, and there’s tea-making on the second floor.

The only thing going for it was the location, near the train station and town centre. Everything else was a mess. The entryway had a strange smell, and the carpets were dirty and stained. Half the toilets wouldn’t flush, and the showers were filthy, with one even soiled with faeces. The rooms were tiny and stuffy, with the beds packed together and hardly any room to move. The windows opened, but the busy street made it noisy. The under-bed lockers were difficult to open, at least the one I used. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Basic cleanliness and comfort were missing.
