It’s not right in the centre, but the cosy atmosphere, amazing food and incredibly accommodating people more than made up for that. Paul helped my wife and me at check-in, and I wanted to thank him and the rest of the staff for making our stay so good. Can’t recommend this place enough.

The room had no problems, it was clean and comfortable, with a good hot shower. I wasn’t sure about the meal deal after reading other reviews, but it turned out to be really good. Dinner, curry and gammon steak, was freshly cooked and tasty. The hot breakfast was good too, and I’ve no complaints about the food or service.

We picked this Premier Inn because it stands on the former Millburn Whisky Distillery site, which is part of my daughter’s family heritage. We stayed in an accessible room in the building that was originally part of the old distillery, opened in 1807 and closed in 1985. Mill Burn runs through the hotel car park. I asked whether they had information connecting the old site to the current buildings and layout, but they didn’t. Staff said they probably should, as people do ask. The room worked perfectly for us, with plenty of space and everything we needed. It had an over-bath shower, and reception could provide more refreshments. There’s an on-site restaurant and bar, breakfast can be booked, parking is plentiful, and disabled bays are opposite the accessible rooms for blue badge holders. The location also suited our planned outings. We were here for a four-day birdwatching break, arriving on St George’s Day 2026, and on the first night, after driving all day, we walked 5.5 miles to River Ness Hydro and back.

It was busy to capacity even in October, which seemed a good sign of the hotel’s quality. I was touring northern Scotland from Canada and found it reasonably priced, quiet and comfortable, with very welcoming staff. Reese, who I believe is the manager, was especially patient, knowledgeable and helpful whenever he could be. The hotel is well placed for downtown, shops, restaurants, and the bus and train stations. I’d stay again. One caveat: rooms facing the main road can get fairly busy, though it’s still manageable.

The room I had wasn’t warm enough, and the communal areas were cold too. There’s no AC, all rooms are smoke-free, and staff are friendly. The bathroom floor was cold from a draft, and the evening meal service was the main letdown: it took 40 minutes to bring out a plate of simple nachos. Evening staffing seemed lacking, and there weren’t proper toilet rolls. On the plus side, the rooms are spacious, the shower is good, breakfast is nice, and the food and Wi-Fi are okay. There’s on-site parking, shower wash, and USB and HDMI points. It’s definitely better than the Travelodge in Elgin, and could do for a couple of nights. The inn has two separate buildings.
