Riverbank

The room, the atmosphere and the host made for a lovely stay. The place was clean, cosy and homely, and the host was welcoming, kind, helpful and polite. The location is fantastic and the price very fair. I just got back from Riverbank Guest House, Inverness, and honestly don't understand some of the bad reviews. I'd definitely visit, and I'll be back.

The landlord was incredibly rude. We were paying guests, but he made us feel at fault for not getting his messages. The atmosphere sent us straight out. When we came back two hours later, he'd locked the outer door and we couldn't get in. We were locked out all night in an unfamiliar town, with our bags still inside the room. Avoid this place at all costs.

Damp, cold and smelly. We had two different rooms: the heating didn't work in the first, and the shower drain was blocked in the second, so we couldn't shower on day two. The heating only comes on for about two hours in the morning and two in the evening, which isn't suitable if you plan to spend much time indoors. Maybe it's okay for one night if you don't need a shower and have no sense of smell. We had to buy air freshener and a scented candle just to cope. Leaving the hotel was one of the best parts of our Scotland trip. Scotland itself is lovely, by the way.

We were due to arrive in August, but had to change our plans because our son had started having seizures and we'd be eight hours away. I called after putting in a cancellation and refund request on May 19th. The lack of sympathy and understanding was unbelievable.
