Best Western Ipswich Hotel

The room was nice, though quite cold, and the bathroom needs some maintenance. At least there was a place to dry the towels. We came on New Year's Eve and had hoped to eat something good at this otherwise nice hotel, but the dinner arrangements were confusing. The check-in bill said dinner ran from 6pm-8pm, while trying to order at 8pm through reception didn't work. The pool and fitness area were closed that night too, which was annoying. We also hadn't expected online check-in: the machine rejected our surname and every number we tried, until a woman from the bar came over and helped us, charging £1.

I walked here to raise money for Colchester Zoo, and after 8 hours on foot I was completely shattered. The bath and bed felt like the best things ever, lol. I had to order food in because I couldn't eat otherwise, then left at 11am to walk back to Colchester as planned. It was brutal, but I raised £480! I was there during lockdown, when they weren't serving food or doing much with visitors, so this may be a bit harsh. From what I remember, the hotel was okay, a little dated and without any glitz, but it did the job for one night.

The staff were superb and a real credit to the company. It's a very nice hotel in a good spot and easy to reach, though it could use some care and an exit sign.

There’s plenty of parking, and my room was fine, but I found the hotel okay while some others didn't like it. It's older and rather isolated, so you can hear the floor above creaking and noise in the hallway. The bath was good, though the shower underneath was underpowered. I missed breakfast, so can't comment on it. There's a gym, but no air conditioning, just a fan, and no fridge.
