Mermaid, Ipswich by Marston's Inns

We had a lovely time. The staff were excellent, the rooms clean, and the amenities very good. It’s close to town, and even with the place busy for the football, the staff were good and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. A vending machine in the lobby might help guests wanting a snack or bottled water for the kettle, especially if they don’t want to use the room water. The bottled glass water from the pub was expensive.

Liam and bethan looked after us so well. Even with the pub busy, we never had to wait at the bar, and they were lovely and couldn’t do enough. We stayed two nights; reception is in the pub across the carpark, and our room was tidy, clean and quiet. The pub was clean and lovely too. One side is bar-only, which is good when sport’s not on. The lounge and restaurant were very quiet, with a nice current playlist in the background, something most pubs don’t do anymore. It’s about a 10-minute walk to town, with lots of local shops around. We’ll stay again :)

Breakfast was nice, and the staff were really friendly. Check-in was handled by the friendly bar staff, with the rooms in a separate building. My room was comfortable, but it needs updating: the wallpaper is peeling and the general upkeep could be better.

The food was outstanding, served hot, and the prices were reasonable. The bar is dog friendly too. I called earlier with a question and they were police and helpful, then used the automated phone booking, which was a breeze. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.
