The Shipwrights Arms Hotel

I woke after just an hour in bed with dozens of bed bug bites, and the bed seemed severely infested. There was no Wi-Fi at all, and when we shut the windows the room had a strong smell of vomit. The room was small, not the deluxe one promised in the Booking.com advert. There was only a notice on the restaurant window saying reception was there. Someone was waiting for us, but had to phone another person to confirm the card details and charge us for the two booked nights. Later, nobody was in the restaurant, and we had no way to reach the manager. Our email bounced back as an unrecognised address. We had no option but to find somewhere else to stay. As we were leaving the car park, we found a restaurant staff member and told him why we were going. After that, the Booking.com advert disappeared. We were charged despite all those bites.

A small, pleasant place with tidy, secure rooms and very polite, welcoming staff. Breakfast is available for a modest extra charge. The shower wasn't great, but at least each room has one, and toiletries were supplied too. I'd recommend it.

Breakfast was fine, and the Wi-Fi was faster than at quite a lot of hotels I've stayed in. The room was a nice size, though the shower could've been cleaner. I'd go somewhere else for an evening meal.

Horrible. I had the worst stay there. The place was a complete mess and not clean at all, with the entrance through a restaurant downstairs. The staff weren't polite, though they pretended to be friendly for their own advantage. Some rooms don't have showers, and people came into our room to use ours 😑. They didn't even return the deposit. Never recommend it.
