Bovey was comfortable and had only been fitted out a couple of years ago, though there are a few things that could be better. There’s no WiFi, no USB charging sockets, and phone reception was so weak I had to go outside. Since we were there out of season, we needed to check online whether places were open. The fitted kitchen had a washing machine but no dishwasher. The setting is lovely countryside, although rather remote. We’d also counted on the castle cafe being open for meals, so its closure was a disappointment, even if it didn’t ruin the trip.

There are lots of lovely nature walks around the area, and we could enjoy gorgeous sunsets from the window every evening. The Terrace Flat at Glengorm Castle was very spacious and had everything we needed. The cafe, just a short walk away, served delicious food. We had an amazing stay and I can’t wait to come back.

Cafe open Thursday-Sunday. We hadn’t realised you can’t go inside unless you’re staying at the hotel, but the walk around it is beautiful.

Mountains, hills, ocean, sky, sheep and cows all in one view, and the lawn was lovely and plush. The place itself was gorgeous, with thoughtful decor in every room, loads of indoor and outdoor space, and a kitchen stocked with all the tools and appliances you might need. Definitely worth it, I’d absolutely recommend it. The tea room down the road had wonderful scones too.

The room, Torr, was spacious and beautifully furnished, and the breakfasts were delicious. We also loved walking from the grounds down to the coastline. Glengorm Castle felt like a much-loved home, with relaxed, welcoming spaces in the lounge, games room, dining room and reading room. Everything was lovely from the moment we arrived until we left. A truly special stay, and we’ll certainly return.
