Ednam House Hotel

The outside seating area was peaceful, with a gorgeous view. Inside, the vintage style is very well maintained, and everything was really clean. The architecture and decor work beautifully together to create a calm atmosphere. Everyone we met on staff was kind, friendly, and helpful. Katie gave us a warm, attentive welcome at reception and helped make our stay great. I’d happily recommend the place and will likely come back.

The hotel’s beautiful setting is what really makes it, and the breakfast room has a great view as well. Kelso is a great town and the people are so friendly. The rooms are old fashioned and dated, but basic and comfortable. Breakfast was superb.

The spacious, clean room was a plus, and the included evening meal was decent value. The location is convenient for town, and there’s an electric car charger on site. Still, I don’t think we’d return. The hotel feels very old fashioned and needs a major overhaul. There was no music or atmosphere, which made things awkward at times. Breakfast was poor: we asked for scrambled eggs and toast, but were told to get the toast ourselves, so only eggs came on the plate. There wasn’t much choice of fruit or other continental food. Service at the bar was lacking, too. We kept having to ring the bell or go find a staff member. And with no lifts and lots of stairs, even to the restaurant and bar, it’s not suitable for babies or buggies.

The food was high quality and the staff were friendly. I loved the ingenious mix of modern and historic design in this extraordinarily beautiful hotel. Spending time here was unforgettable, and I truly recommend it to everybody.
