Derwent Manor Apartments

The gardens were beautifully kept, but the living areas didn't get the same attention, and the priorities seem misplaced. Our apartment was in poor shape and looked as though it hadn't been properly cleaned for a long time. Dusty cobwebs were everywhere, the furniture and carpets were stained, and the bathrooms had a lingering damp, sewage-like smell. The beds were very old and uncomfortable, and we struggled to sleep. The bar area was dated too and smelled unpleasant, like wet dogs. We understand the property welcomes pets, but cleanliness still needs to be maintained properly by staff trained in hygiene. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you're looking for somewhere comfortable and pleasant.

The man at the desk was lovely, very helpful and refreshingly blunt. The apartments are basic, though the price we paid was fair for what we got. Bring your own supplies, including hand soap and washing-up liquid. They provide bath towels and two dishwasher tablets, but little else.

We spent New Year here again, and it was as lovely as ever. We chose to watch the new year arrive in the garden and were sent glasses of fizz. There are fantastic walks right nearby, and we didn't move the car for three days. We also love that dogs are allowed. We've stayed in several apartments and prefer the superior to the classic. Both are spotlessly clean with huge beds, though the classic could do with an update and is still very good. We've visited several times and never tire of this beautiful place. Looking forward to coming again.

The views and surroundings are beautiful, and my private appointment went well. Everything was clean and comfortable for a relaxing break, though the decor is dated. We went to the hotel bar in the evening, where there seemed to be too few staff for the number of people, with just one person serving.
