We've come in a few times to play pool, but on our last visit the landlord threatened to throw us out. Only two of the four of us had brought drinks out, so he wouldn't let us use the table, even though it costs extra anyway. He said, "We're not a youth club." I didn't appreciate the hostility.

Under new management for over a year now, and it's turning into a place to go. Lovely rooms and a friendly team, plus a surprisingly nice patio garden.

The regulars were welcoming and brought us into their conversations, so it felt like being at my own local. I stayed two nights for work, and the staff were excellent and accommodating. There's a pool table at the back that makes a nice games room. The bedrooms had what I needed, including a great shower, a comfortable bed and plenty of pillows. On the landing there's a shared cupboard with a fridge, microwave, iron and board. Four pubs are about 100 steps away, with plenty of takeaways around too. I'd definitely stay again.

A proper friendly pub, with good beer and a warm welcome for children too.

We had a big, comfortable bed in a spacious room, and the shower had good pressure. The staff were lovely and kindly welcomed our little dog. I'm planning to return and try the food.
