The garden is a lovely little oasis, and the friendly lady I met in the morning made the place feel like a home from home. I had a comfortable room with enough space for what I needed, plus sufficient refreshments. Breakfast was great too. I stayed one night and arrived after 10pm, but the self check-in was straightforward thanks to the clear instructions and good communication beforehand. Much nicer than a chain hotel.

Room G was lovely, tastefully decorated and had everything we needed. The room was very clean, and the hallway and stairs were beautifully decorated too. We slept well after moving to room 2, which was also lovely and clean. The only fault I could find in the rooms was that there wasn’t a hook on the bathroom door 😂 But getting in was difficult and unsafe, especially in the dark. The path from the guest gate was dark and slippery with wet leaves, and there were steps down to the building. A loose stone and broken step were hard to see. If you use this hotel, find it in daylight. We were on the top floor with no lift, up two flights of very narrow stairs. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a physical disability. My friend and I had booked one night, room only. After we went out for a meal, I used the toilet around 10pm. It wobbled badly when I got up, and flushing it flooded the bathroom. I called both numbers in the information book twice, with no answer. I also went down and rang the assistance bell three times, but nobody responded. When a man eventually called back, he asked what was wrong, apparently without listening to the voicemails. He said he couldn’t get anyone out until morning, with no apology, and told us not to flush the toilet. When I said we couldn’t stay in the room, he said we could move downstairs and explained how to get the key for room 2. I’d have rated the stay much higher without the poor attitude on the phone and the lack of disabled access.

The owner was quick to answer my questions, and we had a lovely two-night stay in a good-sized room and bathroom with tea and coffee provided. The one disappointment was that the bath in the ‘Pink Room’ was out of use because of plumbing problems. Other reviews suggest it had been that way for a fair few months, and we should have been told beforehand since we were paying for that service. Still, it’s a great little place. Thanks for having us.

The Old Rectory sits in beautiful grounds, and the inside is just as gorgeous. We enjoyed two nights there last week. The hosts and staff were friendly, and breakfast was tasty. Thanks for a lovely stay!
