The breakfasts were our favourite part, with a great range of locally sourced food to suit everyone. Be sure to try the apple juice. Brownber Hall also made us feel welcome right away, with tea, coffee and slices of homemade lemon drizzle cake when we arrived. We spent three nights there and wished we’d booked longer. The bedrooms were spacious and felt like home, with little comforts everywhere. Set in beautiful grounds on the doorstep of Kirby Stephen, it’s a lovely place to get away to the countryside.

Peter and Amanda are such good hosts, and nothing is too much trouble. Their warm, five-star service made this feel like a relaxing home from home. On arrival, you can settle into the drawing room with the papers, have a nap, or enjoy complimentary tea and homemade cake. The rooms are beautiful, with lovely little touches and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious and huge, with options for different tastes and dietary requirements.

The views from the front of the hall are stunning, and there are some great walks right on the doorstep. They also offer a packed lunch. On our first visit we were warmly welcomed with tea or coffee and scones, and the staff did a fantastic job making sure we enjoyed our stay. The place has loads of character. We’ll definitely be back.

We loved the retro bar, and the views were amazing. The food was delicious, high quality and plentiful, and the staff were happy to help with anything. Peter and Amanda were attentive, friendly hosts during our wonderful stay at Brownber Hall. The luxurious bedrooms and sitting and dining rooms mix Victorian, retro and shabby chic styles in a way that creates just the right atmosphere. We’ll be returning and telling others about it. Can’t wait!

The atmosphere was really lovely, and it was a pleasure to meet Peter. He and his wife have made a lovely hotel that’s convenient for the Lake District and close enough to the M6 for people or families travelling between Scotland or northern England and the South. I stayed one night. Everything in the room was excellent and breakfast was superb. I recommend this hotel without reservation.
