We went to Kirkcudbright for the Art Trail weekend and staying at Gladstone House felt more like visiting friends than being in a guest house. Malcolm and Jonathan were incredibly welcoming. Breakfast was amazing, and my hubby is still talking about it! We’d definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Kirkcudbright.

The gardens kept me happily occupied, with lots of well-kept flowers, shrubs and plants, home-grown fruit and veg, and plenty of places to sit. The weather was lovely all weekend, so I made the most of them. The local attractions are great too, particularly The Art and Craft Fair. I came back to Gladstone House and it didn’t disappoint. The hosts were fabulous, and gave us a warm, friendly welcome. The rooms are cosy and warm, and we slept comfortably before having the included breakfast. A perfect hidden gem.

The quiet after dark was striking. I could literally hear a pin drop, and after the initial surprise, I found the stillness comforting. Where I live, there always seems to be some noise, so these were some of the most restful nights I can remember. The gardens were meditative too. Malcolm and Jonathan were hosts beyond expectation. They shared what they knew about Kirkcudbright’s history, helped me research my ancestry, and served their memorable breakfasts. Try the homemade bread, it’s the best, and you’ll still be thinking about it long after you leave. The accommodation and hospitality were excellent. My two-day visit to Gladstone House, in the old part of town, was the highlight of my Scotland trip, even after a 13-day tour with Rick Steves' Europe tours. I’d come to Scotland on an ancestral visit to see MacLellan's Castle. If you’re anywhere near Kirkcudbright, I highly recommend Gladstone House.

We had two excellent nights at Gladstone House this week and will definitely be back. Malcolm and Jonathan made us feel so welcome, and they were excellent hosts. Breakfast was delicious, especially Malcolm's homemade bread.

The hosts were friendly, very accommodating, and gave us a warm welcome. We had a great stay and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Kirkcudbright. Our room was a good size, with a really comfortable bed, good tea and coffee facilities, and a lovely bathroom. The hairdryer worked very well, and it was a nice touch to have use of the first-floor living room. Breakfasts were delicious and set us up nicely for the day.
