The George Inn

I was anxious about cross contamination because I can’t have gluten, dairy or egg, but Mike and Malcom, the chef, were reassuring and very accommodating. Since the place is gluten free and dairy free, I had nothing to worry about. Everyone was so friendly, and I’ll be back. Thank you!

We were there for three nights over a long weekend, and the staff’s kindness made the stay. The place is cozy, well located, and dog friendly. After a day on the nearby trails, the hearty food was just right. They also offered to make us a packed lunch, which was a lifesaver on the train home. The carvery was a treat, especially the gluten free Yorkshire puddings. We loved it.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the decor is lovely. We felt at home thanks to the wonderfully friendly staff, and the food was fantastic. Malcolm even drove us to the train station after looking after us so well. Everything on the menu is gluten free, so I’d especially recommend this place to anyone with gluten issues. I hope to come back on another trip.

We celebrated my birthday at the George and the Dragon Inn on Saturday, 21st June 2025, and had a memorable evening. My friend and I both have dairy allergies, and the staff took great care to accommodate us. The homemade food was full of flavour and clearly made with skill. The chef’s artisan bread was so good we nearly asked to take a loaf home. Service was courteous, efficient and professional. We’ll definitely return. Many thanks.
