The Cross Keys

There’s a lovely park with a lake a short walk away, and plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby. The old building has charm, while the rooms are modern, clean, and have what you need. Staff are friendly and helpful, and breakfast offers a good range of choices.

I couldn’t stay in the room I’d booked for one night. It was so dirty, and clearly hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guests. I’d paid for breakfast, but was told there wasn’t any and that I’d have to contact booking.com for a refund. There was no Wi-Fi in the room and no phone signal, which was a big problem when I needed to work. The security camera had been removed from the room entrance, and a fire extinguisher was left outside the front door. Avoid this run-down, dirty shambles at all costs.

The staff were really friendly, and the place had a nice atmosphere. We shared a platter and sweet potato fries between four of us, and it was enough to fill us up. The beer was fresh and nice, and the food was delicious.

A big thank you to the barman today, though I’m sorry I didn’t get his name. My friends and I had been running in Tatton Park and got caught in torrential rain, so we were soaked through. He kindly brought us each a towel to dry off and warm up while we had a celebratory pint after running 10k. That was so kind of him, and we wanted to share our thanks.
