Rising Sun Pub, Restaurant and Room

I stayed overnight for free in my campervan after finding the pub on Brit Stops. It’s lovely and quiet out here, with birdsong the loudest sound, and the beer garden was exceptional on a beautiful evening. I had the wild mushroom tortellini, which was delicious. The staff and locals were friendly and welcoming, making it feel pleasant and safe. There are happy hour deals if that’s your thing, and dogs are welcome, with a Woofchester menu. I also got to say hello to a couple of doggos. One idea I wish every pub would adopt immediately, in my middle-aged opinion, is a basket of spare glasses for people who forgot theirs. Top marks.

We settled by the fire after getting drinks at the bar, and the food arrived quickly even though it was busy. It was delicious, and I’d definitely recommend a visit. The pub felt warm, welcoming and cosy on a Friday night, with plenty of space and a good buzz without being too loud or completely full. The menu has an original feel while still offering traditional home-cooked dishes, and there’s a good range of drinks. It’s beautiful in winter as well as summer, when there are plenty of outdoor seats.

The fire and a delicious dinner saved us when sudden rain caught us out on a bike trip. We first found this cosy, welcoming pub while looking for shelter, and came back the next night for another dinner. The fish and chips were banging, the steak burger was great, and there were lots of gluten-free options. Gorgeous view and really friendly service. Highly recommended.

The Rising Sun was very busy, but the service was still excellent. Our family had a delicious Sunday lunch: the food was hot, beautifully presented and really tasty, so every plate was cleared. There’s a varied menu alongside a big choice of traditional Sunday lunch dishes, with something for everyone. I’d definitely visit again and am happy to recommend the pub.
