That £34 midweek rate may be cheap, but I still expect basic cleanliness and upkeep, even at a motorway services hotel. I've stayed at the Days Inn Membury twice, and both times were pretty grim. On the first visit the windows wouldn't shut properly, so the room stayed freezing and the wind whistled through all night. The second time, flushing the toilet sent water leaking out from the cabinet and across the bathroom floor. I stepped onto the soaked carpet and wound up with wet socks covered in toilet water. There was a strong cabbage smell in the room too. I arrived late and didn't want the hassle of moving rooms, but it was really unpleasant.

The welcome on arrival was unpleasant, and the £5 parking charge came as a nasty surprise since it wasn't mentioned when booking indirectly. For business, the location is handy. The place was clean and tidy, and the WiFi worked well.

They say parking is free, then charge a fiver. The hotel is cheap, but the state of it explains why: peeling flooring and stained walls and doors make it feel really scuzzy. You can tell it's an American hotel brand that may once have had standards. Now it feels like a nasty budget chain that doesn't care.

It wasn't easy to find, and there's no lift in the hotel, which is a major black mark for me. The room felt a bit tired and had especially few sockets for charging a phone or power bank, though the bed was comfortable.

We had a pleasant stay overall, with clean rooms, friendly staff, affordable prices, and a convenient spot on the Motorway. A few things were missing or not working in one of our rooms: the body wash was empty, there was no mini fridge, and the sink was clogged. Kudos to Alwin and the other staff for sorting things out quickly and helping whenever we needed it.
