The bed was comfortable, the room clean, and the staff friendly. It’s cheap, but this really felt like rooms above a pub, absolutely not a hotel. There was no parking, so I had to use the nearby Sainsbury's carpark at extra cost. My room was very loud, with single-pane windows, one of them cracked. I’m not sure if someone forgot to turn off a jukebox on my first night, but thank goodness for earplugs: I went to bed around midnight and could still hear it when I woke at 6.30am. I don’t know if there were hot-water supply problems, but my shower didn’t get hot until my last night. The clean room had seen better days and needed a refurbish; everything felt tired. There also wasn’t enough tea, milk or sugar for my stay, and I had to go back to the bar for the WiFi password because it wasn’t in the room. You get what you pay for, I suppose.

Just had a brilliant home-cooked carvery, and the staff were really friendly. From Tracy and Lindsay Phil and Sam Julie and Neil

The waitresses were very polite and did their best to help with the problem, which is why I gave two stars. But I wouldn’t recommend eating here. Maybe stop for a drink at the bar, but the food was a definite no. My sisters and I came for my sister’s birthday on Saturday night. We were the only four people eating, yet the food took ages. Three of us ordered lasagna and one had spaghetti bolognese. All three lasagnas were burnt, and the spaghetti was undercooked. It was disgusting. I was starving, so I ate what I’d been given, but two meals were left untouched apart from the two slices of garlic bread with the lasagna. After we’d had enough, we refused to pay for those two meals. There was a lot of back-and-forth while the waitress spoke to the manager, then we were asked to pay for two meals, our drinks and £5 for four slices of garlic bread. Obviously, that wasn’t happening. The lovely waitresses handled a difficult situation well, and in the end we paid for two meals and our drinks.

The portions were huge and the food delicious, and the staff were so friendly. We had a great stay and dinner. Our room was nice, clean and tidy, with tea and coffee very well stocked. I had my three-year-old with me. There was a little courtyard noise, but no more than you’d expect on a Saturday night in a pub, and she still fell asleep easily. We’d definitely come back.

Nice atmosphere when I visited yesterday at 9.00 for a pint of Guinness, squash and Pepsi Max. Came back today at 4.00 for a glass of squash, had one and left.
