Sykes Cottages led us to believe the Good Housekeeping Bond would be taken only if there was damage. We left the property thoroughly tidied, but the owner still kept a large part of our deposit, saying it hadn't been cleaned “professionally.” There was no invoice or inventory to support the supposed cleanliness issues. When we challenged the charge, the owner gave no explanation and sent us back to Sykes. Neither the owner nor Sykes took responsibility, so we won't book this property again. I'd urge anyone considering it to check it very carefully before booking.

We had a lovely week here. The property was spotless and very well equipped, and the good housekeeping bond came back the next day. It's a beautiful place on a quiet country road. We'd definitely recommend staying.
