The Game Cock Inn

After some drinks, we came back the next day for Sunday roast, and what a gorgeous meal. The chef clearly knows his craft and even came out to check everything was all right. He was lovely, and the staff were so warm and friendly. It’s been a while since we’ve had customer service this good. We also loved the patisserie next door. The pub welcomes dogs, and we’d highly recommend it.

The food was delicious, pub-style with French touches, a great combination. We stopped before a long hike at Malham, so it was perfect fuel. Book ahead, as it can get busy, and don’t miss the bakery next door for a sweet treat. A shoutout to the guy at the bar, who I think was the owner’s son. He was really friendly and kept checking in while making drinks, taking orders and payments, clearing and sorting tables, and handling other jobs. It was impressive how well he kept things up in such a busy place.

We hadn’t booked, but they managed to fit us in for an early tea after our walk from Dalesbridge Campsite. The staff made us feel welcome straight away, explained the menu and recommended specials. The food was beautiful, and the chef, who’s French, made the best meal I’ve had in a long time. The desserts were just as good. Highly recommended. We’d walked from Dalesbridge Campsite on the Clapham to Norber Erractics route and back. The Gamecock is a quirky pub in the heart of Austwick, within walking distance of both Dalesbridge Campsite and Orcaber Campsite. We’ll definitely return.

The front-of-house staff member, who I think was called David, knew the menu well and recommended specials that were incredible. Our group of six arrived without a booking, and they squeezed us in, letting us know we had an hour and a half before the table was booked again. That was plenty of time. Everyone left full and happy, and we’ll definitely be back.
