The views were stunning, and I really enjoyed the stay. The building has a lovely quirky feel, and breakfast was amazing. My room was beautiful, though it looked a little tired in places. Fix the flickering light, loose drawer handle and dodgy toilet flush, and it’d be five stars from me.

The staff were incredibly helpful and polite, and my room felt luxurious, with good views and hardly any noise. It was well stocked, and the minibar was reasonably priced, more or less. The hotel’s close to the train station and only a 2-5 minute walk from the heart of the city. I didn’t order room service, but the food options sounded amazing. My only real complaint was the lack of standard tea. Wish I could’ve stayed longer than one night!

I stayed midweek for work in October 2019. My room was spacious, comfortable and a bit quaint, and the location and quirky feel are superb. It was clean, and the facilities looked excellent, including room service, the late night bar and shoe shine, though I didn’t really use them. The one actual issue in the room was weak shower pressure. As other recent reviews have said, the rooms and corridors are a little tired and could do with a spruce-up. Check-in and check-out were friendly and efficient, but a technical issue meant I couldn’t get an invoice at the time. Hopefully they’ll email it. I didn’t eat there, so I can’t comment on the food. Until the refurbishment, which I believe was due in 2020, the prices are a bargain for the location, space and character. I’ll be back soon before the decor and prices get upgraded.

The river view was fantastic, and I loved sitting in the armchair by the window with a cup of tea. The bathroom was five-star, and the huge bed was very comfortable. My room was big, but its long, thin shape was a bit odd at first and grew on me. The decor was the only letdown, with wallpaper that looked tired. I had a lovely two-night stay and would come back.

I liked how the building’s history has shaped the hotel’s decor. Our room was very clean and a good size, and the service was good too. The bathroom sink had poor water pressure, and I couldn’t arrange a later check-in time. I’d stay again.
