Hilton Leeds City Hotel

The room could have been warmer at times, which took away a little from the comfort. Otherwise, I had a lovely stay and would happily come back. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the food was a real highlight for its quality and variety, and the location made it easy to get around and reach everything I needed.

We had a lovely weekend here. The rooms were nice, with modern bathrooms and comfy beds, and staff were polite. They kindly stored our luggage before check-in and after checkout. Breakfast was lovely too, and I'd stay again. It's a lovely location. A couple of things to know: even from the 11th floor, we could hear the trains as a rumbling noise, though that's not the hotel's fault. Guests also slam doors. And despite the hotel saying it had fixed the issue mentioned in older reviews, there was still an awful sewage smell in the entrance at 11am this morning.

The lifts were the main frustration for me and the people I visited with. There are just two in the whole building, they're very slow and seem to have a mind of their own. You need your room card to use them, but the system is temperamental. In our circumstances, taking the stairs wasn't feasible. I was there for a work event and otherwise found the hotel quite nice, clean, welcoming and friendly. Staff stayed attentive even while busy. The food selection was varied, though the vegetarian and vegan labels and allergen information could be much clearer. The car park is very tight, but the website says so, and my Fiat 500 just about fit.

Breakfast was good, but the rooms need a full refurbishment. The reception looked nice, yet both rooms I saw were awful. The first was filthy, with a tobacco pouch on the floor, so I moved. In the second, the windows wouldn't shut. Being next to the train station meant I heard trains at all hours and even the station announcements. If you want to sleep, go elsewhere.
