Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

The team made our boyfriend's birthday stay feel really special, starting with a complimentary balloon on the bed. We paid for an upgrade and thought it was excellent value: the bed was massive and incredibly comfortable, and the mini-bar was well stocked. Lunch at the Champagne Bar was delicious, with attentive service, and the spa was spotless. Having robes in the room made it easy to head over and relax. Dinner was just as good; the chicken breast is well worth trying, and the curry was a hit too. We finished with a high-quality breakfast and lots of choice. Many thanks to the helpful staff for a lovely celebration.

The grounds, building, guest areas and reception are beautiful, and give the place a grand feel. On our first visit to Oulton Hall Hotel, the staff were polite, friendly and helpful throughout, and the room was clean and tidy with the usual facilities. At this price, though, it felt dated, especially the bathroom, which looked very 1990s. The air conditioning didn't seem to work, so we opened the window, which was difficult, and some fixtures were tired. The bed was clean and comfortable with fresh linen. We had breakfast on a couple of days. It was okay overall, but both mornings there weren't enough clean plates at the cooked breakfast station, which we also noticed a couple of times while seated. The cooked selection was small, though you could ask for extra items at your table. The pastries were okay but seemed bought in rather than freshly baked. The bread, fruit, yoghurt and cereal selection was broad and good. There was just one coffee machine, which queued at busy times, so another would help. The pool looked dated and noticeably lacked heating. The heated jacuzzi or hot tub seats four comfortably. The changing rooms were clean, but some lockers and keys were broken. We enjoyed the stay and would return.

We first stayed in October 2025 and had a few minor issues, so we spoke with the general manager. When we came back in May 2026, they upgraded us to a suite at no charge. This time the stay was amazing, and we really enjoyed the spa, room, breakfast and bar. A big thank you to Carlos the manager, who went above and beyond to make it even better.

I stayed overnight for a wedding, and the venue and setting were lovely. The standard double room was decent, if pricey, and the bed, bedding and pillows were excellent. I slept really well. Some of the hospitality staff were great throughout the day, especially Anwar, but others became short with us in the evening, almost rude. Check-in was off-putting: reception staff were brusque, and as several guests arrived and a queue formed, no one made an effort to engage with them, even though a team member was at the keyboard and seemed oblivious. That didn't ruin a wonderful event in a very nice setting, but the service was below par at times, pun intended.
