The staff were the best part for me. Manisha? greeted me warmly and, since it was my first time in Leeds, gave me useful advice about shops and restaurants around town. I checked out her suggestions and liked what I found, especially at Trinity Shopping Centre, which had most of the shops you'd want. I also met the day, evening and night teams, all of whom were welcoming. Luke on the night audit was friendly and professional, and his local knowledge and tips for good places to eat were invaluable. The hotel is central, about 5-10 minutes from the train station. I walked there from the station, though there's a fairly steep bit; an accessible road runs into the centre but gets a lot of car traffic. The lift uses a security code that changes daily after you select your floor. A room keycard reader in the lift would be more efficient and could be easier for some people. My standard room looked over the car park and the nearby bridge carrying the trains. I didn't hear them or notice any disruption, so the windows do a good job blocking noise. Still, I'd give this Travelodge 3/5, not because of the staff, but because it's a simple, centrally located place without extra amenities. I'd happily stay again, though maybe not with family or young kids: I could hear some guests talking in the passage while my room door was closed and locked. I paid £228 for two nights, which is very expensive for a Travelodge. With that price in mind, I'd only use budget hotels when the rate is reasonable. My main reason for choosing this one was that I could walk from the station and had few plans, so it pays to book well ahead.

It's a cheap, no-frills hotel in a very central location, and pretty much what you'd expect. We stayed two nights. On arrival, the TV remote didn't work, and neither did the coffee machine we'd paid extra for. A cleaner nearby swapped the remote, though she couldn't fix the machine. We told reception when we went out, and by the time we got back it had been replaced and was working. The next morning, the paid quiet room didn't seem very quiet. We were on the fourth floor, but could hear the bin lorry emptying bottles at 5am, then a delivery truck reversing with its beeping 30 minutes later. Other guests' doors closing at night were noisy too. There was only one bath towel for two of us, and the shower gel dispenser was empty. I reported the gel to reception when we went out that morning, but it still hadn't been refilled by the end of the day.

We got in around 7.30 on Saturday night and had a really nice two-course dinner. Breakfast the next day was lovely and reasonably priced, too. Amelia-rose served us dinner and was absolutely lovely, happy to do anything she could for us. The room was clean and lovely. The downside was being kept awake for half the night by people having parties. That's not ideal on a child-free night when you've got a four-hour drive home the next day. Even so, we had a lovely stay overall.

The noise made this the worst hotel stay I've had. Trains outside and people constantly moving around in the hallway kept me awake all night. It felt like I was sleeping beside the tracks. I regret not checking the reviews before booking. My trip to Leeds was ruined, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.

It was dog friendly, which was a big plus. Everything was clean and decent, and the facilities all worked. Victoria and the other reception staff were really friendly and helpful. If you're driving, unload your bags at the entrance on Blayds Yard, then park at Trinity car park. Register at reception to get the parking discount.
