Lodge at Leeming Bar

I’ve given up on the main services and now drive round the corner to McDonald's. Every time I’ve tried this place, the experience has been disappointing. The building feels old and shabby, and the facilities are only moderate at best. Staff seem to be juggling several jobs, so service is usually very slow and rarely comes with a smile.

After what felt like a never-ending drive home, we stopped here. The place was clean, tidy and welcoming, and the staff were so polite and helpful. They even let us use the hotel’s baby changing facilities. Thank you.

The restaurant food was good and the staff were great. My three-star rating is down to the room I stayed in a couple of years ago. It felt dated and a little run down, though for all I know the rooms may have been refurbished since then.

I make a stop here every time I travel to Scotland and on the way back. It’s a useful break on the A1, with McDonald and fuel, plus coffee and a quick snack at less than service-area prices. It’s the last stop before the scotch corner, and has what you need while travelling.
