The Hogmanay gala dinner at The Ship Inn was outstanding. The food, atmosphere, and celebratory feel made New Year's Eve really special. We stayed on for my birthday the next day, and somehow that was even better. The silent disco was such fun, the BBQ and paella from the cabin were delicious, and the live music kept going. Everything felt joyful, relaxed, and brilliantly organised. Long beach walks with our dogs added to a wonderful stay, with just the right mix of celebration, comfort, and seaside calm. The staff did an outstanding job. We'll definitely be back very soon. Thank you for a memorable Hogmanay and birthday! The Bradley family x

We arrived hungry and grumbly for a late lunch, a family of four across three generations, battered by mid-December gales. The warm welcome at The Ship Inn, Elie, was just the shelter we needed. Murray greeted us and quickly found us a table. He and the team were thoughtful, helpful, and attentive, easing us into the relaxed pace and making us feel like welcome guests rather than passing trade. The bar felt like the friendly heart of the inn, with the kitchen close behind. The menu showed off East Neuk pub cooking at its best, generous and unpretentious, built around local fish, smoke, and produce. Much of it seemed to come from within thirty minutes of the kitchen. The Cullen skink was smoky comfort, and the haddock and chips were crisp, delicate, and quietly excellent. Both used fish from St Monans, barely three miles away. Shetland mussels in marinière were sweet, light, and gently briny. Fries and torn sourdough, dipped in the garlicky aioli and fragrant creamy broth, made them even better. After eating, we sat warm and cheered up, watching the grey waves and dreek weather from inside. When we stepped back out into the gloamin, we were grateful for the shelter, food, and welcome. We also heard The Ship Inn has a sister at Ratho, west of Edinburgh beside the Union Canal, called The Bridge Inn, Ratho. We'll be back to Elie and will no doubt visit Ratho too.

A family of four spanning three generations, grumbly hungry for a late lunch and blasted by gales, we sought sanctuary from mid-December’s dreek gloamin in the wam welcome of The Ship Inn, Elie. Greeted by Murray and readily seated at table, we knew right away we’d chanced upon Scottish hospitality at some of its best. Thoughtful, helpful and attentive, he and the team introduced us to the relaxed rhythm of the place and made us feel less like passing trade and more like welcome guests. The menu felt like a confident East Neuk pub kitchen at its most joyful work, a love letter rooted in local smoke and sea, with a sure appreciation for generous, unpretentious British cooking that turns excellent produce and familiar combinations into something deeply satisfying without ever needing to show off. It was clear that much of what’s served is landed, harvested or produced within thirty minutes of the kitchen’s hotplate. The bar is the warm, convivial soul of this inn, and the kitchen its beating heart. The Cullen skink was pure, smoky comfort and the haddock and chips exactly as they should be: crisp, delicate and quietly excellent, both made with fish from St Monans, barely three miles from our table. The Shetland mussels in marinière were light, sweet and gently briny, made all the better by the double pleasure of fries and torn sourdough dragged through the garlicky aioli and fragrant, creamy broth. Fed, warmed and considerably cheered, we watched the grey waves and dank weather from the comfort of our table, and later stepped back out into the gloamin no longer grumbly, but quietly grateful for the shelter, sustenance and warmth we’d found within. A wee bit of happy family news as well: The Ship Inn has a sister at Ratho, west of Edinburgh by the Union Canal; The Bridge Inn, Ratho. We’ll be back to Elie and on to Ratho, no doubt.

The burger was alright, but it didn't justify the price, and the onion rings on it weren't nice. The sticky toffee pudding was really dry and needed a lot more sauce. I’d been looking forward to eating here, so it was a letdown. Sadly, I won't be back.
