The George & Dragon Inn

After a wet walk we stopped in around 2pm for a meal and a drink, and Elaine made us feel welcome, wet Westie included. The beer and food were great, and it was nice chatting with the locals. Elaine's a perfect host. We had a great time and hope to come back later this week. We'll definitely return.

We booked the three-night deal, three nights for the price of two, and it was fantastic value. From Thursday to Sunday, we had excellent dinners and a lovely breakfast each day cooked by Elaine's attentive mother. Elaine and her mum took great care of us. The room had a gorgeous four-poster bed and a roll-top bath, and the view of the rolling Yorkshire hills was lovely, especially from bed. We loved this hotel/inn and would definitely stay again.

The pub itself is a lovely building, with beautiful dining rooms. Our meal, though, was disappointing. My partner's fries were soft, lukewarm and oily, and the vegetables with my pie were badly overcooked. The gravy was the only good part of the pie, which itself wasn't good. An elderly woman served us. With respect, the job seemed too difficult for her: she struggled to remember the order and carry the plates, brought the wrong dishes, then charged us for those dishes and had trouble agreeing on the difference. It made for an unpleasant dinner.

We stayed in our vans for a couple of nights over New Year with friends, and we're already planning to come back this year. The staff were great with our dogs and were friendly and fun with all of us. We loved the beer selection, and the food was excellent in every way. It's a genuinely lovely traditional pub, and we all had a brilliant time.
