I was there for a wake, and the buffet from Wheal Tor was plentiful and delicious. During my two night stay, I was really impressed by the room and the service. It was comfortable and well appointed, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The track leading to the place can be very rough, but that adds to its charm. It's a great base for exploring the moorland around Caroden hill, with spectacular views towards Kit hill and Dartmoor.

The chalet had especially lovely views, and both it and the pods were beautiful. We stayed for three nights and found the service and location fantastic. There were sheep and cows everywhere, and we spotted horses too. A great choice if you enjoy being around animals.

Even with the misty weather, the views were lovely. We had a superb Sunday roast last weekend, full of flavour, and the service was really friendly.

The bathrooms were filthy, with dirty floors, a bad smell and facilities that seemed poorly maintained. Cleanliness and guest comfort clearly didn't feel like priorities. For what they charged, the standard of both the hotel and its service was unacceptable. The staff were rude and dismissive, and even simple questions or requests got a bad attitude. From arriving to leaving, the service felt unprofessional. This was one of the worst hotel stays I've had, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone expecting basic cleanliness, courtesy or service.
