White Hart Hotel

We've come back for a second stay, and will book again. It's a lovely cottage in the middle of a small Cornish village, with a Spar and pub next door and easy access from the main road. The area is nice, and the cottage has excellent decor and a high standard of finish. There's a secure garden for dogs, plus a stone floor in the kitchen and dining area where they can stay. The big spa bath is a must for relaxing, especially for the ladies!

We spent a week at The White Hart and were given five star service for very reasonable rates. John and Suzy clearly run a close team and work alongside their staff. Our room was comfortable and clean, the bar had plenty of choice and the glasses were sparkling. Breakfast was more than ample, and the evening meals were great. The Sunday and midweek roasts were the best we'd had in a long time.

The place outside looked completely unloved, and the room was a disgrace for £80 a night, room only. We were so disappointed by our three days there. We had planned to find somewhere else, but my wife had an accident while walking and we had to go home. The room was badly furnished and poorly decorated. There were holes in the bathroom wall where the towel rail should have been, no shower shelves for toiletries, and a bath mat that should have been replaced weeks earlier. The door kept sticking, and I had to pull the closer at the top to get it open. The old fashioned bed had corners we kept knocking our legs on, so we put pillows over them to protect our knees. Breakfast was terrible. We asked for something light and got muesli, three slices of white toast, butter and spreads. A light breakfast usually means a continental one. I fear the owners will be bankrupt very soon.

The landlady was lovely and chatty, and breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. We didn't eat dinner there. Our room had an en suite, TV and tea and coffee facilities, and was a good size, but it needed a proper dusting and had cobwebs everywhere. When my partner tried the shower, its door fell off, then the towel rail came away from the wall. We stayed for one night. It's an okay place if you just need a base or somewhere to get your head down.
