Hope Street Hotel

There are plenty of quiet corners in the public areas, and the bar was decent, though it got busy when the Philharmonic Hall across the road finished a performance. Staff were all very friendly. The location is good, with bars and restaurants just a couple of minutes away, Bold Street about an 8 minute walk and Liverpool One around 15 minutes on foot. The rooms are modern, clean, spacious, and well equipped, so I would recommend the hotel. The stone bathroom floor was bizarrely cold underfoot without heating. The bath design was frustrating: the spout pours water right over your private parts, so adding hot water once you're in isn't really an option. Reaching the taps behind your head, about 18 inches up the wall, means twisting 180 degrees while lying in the bath. The bathroom products were good, but not easy to reach for soap or shampoo while bathing. Room cleaning was average, the bed was barely made, and things weren't really tidied. The mattress was soft and okay, not amazing, and there was no turn down service. I also wasn't keen on the dynamic pricing. Our Saturday room rate jumped from £297.36 to £583.63. It seems popular for weddings and functions, but that pricing alone would put me off another weekend stay.

We had a good one night stay. The rooms are nicely laid out and have the basics, including a hairdryer and iron. Ours faced the front of the hotel, and the big windows let in lots of light. The main drawback was how thin the walls seemed, as we could hear neighbouring guests easily. Staff were friendly, professional, and efficient, especially at the 1931 restaurant where breakfast is served. The food was excellent, with a good range of choices: the usual English breakfast as well as pastries and other cold items. The bar was lively but still relaxing, and the staff there were friendly and efficient too.

We came after seeing the Heartbreakers, who were simply brilliant. The musicianship was superb, and you could tell the band and audience were all having a blast. This is a great place to stay for any concert at the Philharmonic just across the road. Service was great too, with breakfast served in the 1931 restaurant.

I photographed a wedding here last summer and had an amazing time. There's lots of natural light and plenty of room, with a great flow from the ceremony into the dancing. It's a brilliant Liverpool wedding venue, and handy for couples and guests who want to get ready in one place. Both fifth floor event spaces have terraces with stunning rooftop views across the city. The staff were brilliant and kept everything running smoothly. Looking forward to photographing here again.
