We ate at the hotel and the food was good. The man behind the bar was superb, though the receptionist who greeted us at check-in wasn't very friendly. I stayed with a colleague for a nearby managers' meeting. The central location made it easy to walk to attractions, and the price was very cheap, which I'm sure is why my company booked it. But the hotel felt neglected and wasn't particularly clean. Our rooms were untidy, the bed was uncomfortable, and basic things didn't work: the TV, toilet and some lights. I wouldn't stay here again for work or for pleasure.
The service overall was okay, and the staff, especially the housekeeping team, worked hard and deserve appreciation. But I was shocked to see the head of housekeeping speak to a staff member in a demeaning, disrespectful way. Whatever someone's position, they deserve to be treated with dignity. It was awful and inhumane to witness. That experience is why I gave one star and won't return. I urge management to address how staff are treated.
Our room was clean and nice, but the evening meal was a real letdown. The dining room was cold, my husband's food arrived lukewarm, and my prawn cocktail came with garlic bread instead of the malted bread listed. It took nearly two hours to get two courses, even though the dining room was quiet. We've stayed at plenty of Premier Inns, and this was the worst. We won't be back.
The fifth-floor room was surprisingly quiet for a city centre on a Saturday night, and the shower was the most powerful I've ever had in a hotel. Tesco next door was handy for drinks and snacks for the room, and the location is great. The entrance didn't feel very welcoming, and reception is up a lift. There may be a person there to greet you, or you might need to use self-service. The bar had the usual mass-produced beers, no local brewery options, and the Guinness came from a can. Premier Inn seems to have drifted from its roots, charging silly prices for weekend city stays without much luxury or service. It's a good hotel if you book early and get a decent rate.
We booked two rooms for a weekend away with my mum. Both were clean and comfortable, and the breakfasts came out hot. The staff were friendly too. The location is hard to beat, with everything about a 10-minute walk away. I didn't give five stars because my room faced the plant machinery outside, which made a faint buzzing sound the whole time. There also wasn't any bottled water in the fridge, which I usually get in a Premier Plus room.
