Ropewalks Hotel

We found a lovely, spacious and comfortable room at a fantastic price for a last-minute stay. Our dog was happy there too. The service was excellent, and the location made exploring the city easy. I'd definitely stay again.

The location is central and the place was spotless, but I wouldn't return because of the way the extras were handled. The vegetarian breakfast came with an extra charge that wasn't made clear on the menu, and none of the staff could explain what it was for. It felt like a penalty for being vegetarian. There were just two small bath towels and no hand towels. When I asked at reception for some, I was given two flannels instead.

It's a smart, clean hotel in a handy spot for music and dancing, and the staff were friendly enough. But quiet rest isn't really an option here, especially in the basement rooms on floor -1. The city pubs and clubs are close, and Mason’s, the cocktail bar attached to the hotel, plays very loud bass from early in the day until around midnight. The basement rooms are right below the club, so there's nowhere to get away from the noise. If you're hoping to rest before heading out in the evening, this isn't the place.

I've stayed here a couple of times. The hotel's new and clean, with standard rooms, and its position is spot on for Liverpool's main shopping and food streets. There are loads of nearby pubs, restaurants on Bold Street, and a big Tesco at the end of the road. Liverpool One is an easy trip too. The basement rooms are worth considering. They have no window, but they're larger, stay cooler in summer, and are dark enough that I sleep like a log. The upper rooms can get very warm in the summer.
