Sir Thomas Hotel

We came for the Grand National breakfast and coach, rather than staying overnight. The setup had a nice feel, and they gave us a glass of prosecco when we arrived. Breakfast was fine, nothing special but perfectly adequate, and the coach turned up on time.

The room was freezing because the heater didn’t work, and the phone to the front desk was dead too. We had to search the hotel for the night attendant. She confirmed the heater was broken, with no space heaters or spare rooms available, so we were left to spend the night cold. Quite something when heating is listed as a hotel highlight. Getting back after midnight was another problem. The Ring doorbell wasn’t on, and we waited 15 minutes before anyone let us in. The room also smelled awful from the moment we entered. I reported everything to the morning manager. She noted it down and said a senior manager would follow up about compensation. Weeks went by without any contact, so I chased it myself and got nowhere. Expedia contacted them for me too, and even they waited two weeks for a reply. The hotel refused all compensation. It doesn’t seem to value its guests, and I’d never recommend it. Honestly, sleeping outside might have been warmer.

We had a pleasant two-night stay, and the rooms were quiet during the week. Saturday was a bit noisier, though we still slept through it. The room was clean, but the shower isn’t powerful and the water floods out, so the pipes need clearing. Breakfast was really nice. Thanks for having us.

I brought my elderly parent for a birthday surprise. The room was lovely, warm, and had a great shower, with everything we needed for a short stay. The location was great too, and the staff were so friendly and happy to help. They even arranged a birthday treat for my mum at breakfast. The only thing missing was an evening meal option.
