We’ve visited this fantastic house twice for large family get togethers and would love to come back. The nearest decent supermarket is half an hour away, but that’s part of the appeal.

Our family had a great stay in this warm, cosy old place. With 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and beds for 18, there was loads of room for everyone. It’s very old fashioned and a little spooky, though the kitchen and bathrooms are modern. The one drawback was the front steps, which get very slippery when wet.

We got lucky with the weather, so we could barbecue and use the big lawns for sporty games. It was a lovely house with great grounds, and Caroline was very helpful and there whenever we needed advice or help with an issue. All the facilities and rooms were great, and the kitchen could easily handle our group of 12 adults. There are handy options for the coast, the hills and a local walk to the waterfalls. We stayed for a week in early September 2021. All in all, a great place to stay, highly recommended.

On cold late winter nights, we especially loved getting cosy by the wood burning stoves. Inside, the wood panelled rooms feel elegant, comfortable and refined. The house is fin de siecle, built in a beautiful vernacular style, and looks south over a well manicured lawn that opens into extensive semi-wild gardens. It sits in a gorgeous setting among the Rhinogs and the sea, with all kinds of birds to hear. The name means ‘The place at the white hill’.

We loved hearing people speak Welsh in so many places. There were so many nearby things to do, from Portmeirion, Mach Loop, beaches and Harlech Castle to steam train trips, that we didn’t even get to half the places on our list. The kids had a great time running through the house and playing hide 'n' seek. It was an excellent week in a great house for a big family and friends get together. We’d definitely stay again.
