It’s out of the way, so you’ll need a car. Llanbrynmair is the nearest village, and we used the house as a base for visiting the Welsh coast and lower Snowdonia. Breakfast was good, and we had dinner there too. The hosts made us a gorgeous meal and were very kind and helpful. The house is a historic listed building, with Georgian and Medieval parts, set on a hill above the valley. Watching the morning mist clear from the dining room was lovely. It left drops on the grass, and gave me Jane Austin vibes, so I put on music from Sense and Sensibility. The house and rooms are lovely, tastefully decorated, and the drawing room is cosy, with comfy furniture and a big fire that’s great to sit beside with a glass of wine.

The postcode takes you to the campsite. Drive a bit further up the hill to the Plas Esgair sign, then follow the long drive past the forest house and take the second left towards Plas Esgair. Martin and Robin have put so much care into restoring and furnishing the house. The decoration suits its period, and it’s beautiful throughout. The house is divided in two, with the hosts living on the other side from the guest rooms.

A really quiet, relaxing area with beautiful views. We had a wonderful few days in this characterful house, full of history and lovely things, from paintings and ornaments to the furniture. Everything helped make the stay feel special. Our hosts were so welcoming and helpful, and the food was excellent. We hope to come back soon.

Be careful with this place. The location was hard to find, and my GPS got me lost, so I arrived after dark. The host handled it very unprofessionally and rudely, leaving me stranded as a woman travelling alone in this tiny but beautiful Welsh village. He then sent emails containing profanity. I’ve called Booking.com to complain, and they know about what happened. Beware, traveler!

Robin and Martin turned what could have been a disastrous holiday into a wonderful experience. We arrived very late, and I backed the car into a muddy ditch and got completely stuck. They went out looking for us, found us way out in the back of beyond, took charge of the situation, picked us and our dog up, and brought us back to their lovely, homely place. Even though it was already quite late, they made us a very nice fresh home-cooked meal. The room and bed were comfortable, and we had an excellent night's sleep and breakfast. They also arranged for a local farmer to recover our car. After travelling extensively for both business and pleasure, I can say this was one of my best experiences. I can’t praise the place enough, and highly recommend it along with many others on this site.
