California Hotel

There’s a Burger outlet attached, but it wasn’t open when we visited at lunchtime. The place is near caravan sites and doesn’t serve food itself.

The people here made the stay: the manager/landlord, bar staff, and cleaner were all friendly and helpful, and the locals in the bar were welcoming too. There was a great atmosphere, with good company and beer. My room was quiet, warm, and clean, and the bed was the comfiest I’ve ever had in a hotel or B&B. I was travelling alone, but it felt like home, only much better. I really enjoyed it and will definitely stay again. An outstanding place!

The room was shown to me by a very beautiful woman at reception, who was kind. The location felt unnecessary to me, and when I entered the building there was an interesting smell of colitas. Those things had me wondering if the place was heaven or hell. She had a Tiffany twisted mind, drove a Mercedes Benz, and seemed to have lots of pretty pretty boys she called friends. On my second day, I saw them dancing in the hotel courtyard. It was a summer day, so I asked the captain for my wine, but he oddly said they hadn’t had that kind of spirit there since 1969. What I didn’t like was being woken rudely in the middle of the night every day to hear, “Welcome to the Hotel California.” That struck me as very odd. The last thing I remember is running for the door and being told I could check out any time I liked, but could never leave. I’m still here.

I was disappointed to learn at the last minute that the hotel no longer has a restaurant. The photos, menus, and reviews here still show one, so we had to delay check-in while finding somewhere else to eat. You can bring or order takeaway, but it has to be eaten in the conservatory, not in your room. The room was simple, with a double bed, handy sockets, a kettle with tea and coffee, and a walk-in shower. Staff were welcoming, and we picked up the room key at the bar. It was Friday night and the customers were loud, though we couldn’t hear them in our room. The location is convenient for Anglesey and nearby areas. I’d stay again if I weren’t above the bar, and I’d leave time to find food elsewhere.
