Sure Hotel by Best Western Lockerbie

We’d booked dinner in advance, but when we arrived nobody knew about it. The man at reception seemed completely uninterested and didn’t even apologise. The young woman serving us was friendly, and the service was quick, but the dining room was empty and the food was really poor. The scampi had no taste, and the pork was only fit for resoling your boots. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

A lovely place to stay, with big rooms and a clean, warm atmosphere. The service is great. The father and daughter who work here do a good job keeping things running.

I was booked for two nights at the sister hotel for a work trip, but got there at 20:45 and found it closed. I called the number on the door and spoke to Glen, who explained that the booking had been moved. Since it was through a corporate site, he didn’t have my contact details. I’d arrived by train and couldn’t get to the new hotel, so he arranged for his daughter to collect me. I was a bit grumpy waiting in the cold, but Erin arrived quickly and was lovely. The Sure Hotel isn’t ideally located if you don’t have a car, but it was a pleasant surprise. Erin even drove me to work the next morning before I could sort out my own transport. My room was smart, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was great, though dinner was only average. Erin and Helen were lovely throughout. What began as a bit of a disaster turned out pretty well.

I’ve stayed here several times for work over the last few years. The rooms are okay, but some of the photos make them look better than they are. Breakfast was disappointing, and when the manager wasn’t around, the staff seemed bored and disinterested, with little motivation. It’s a real shame, because with the right person running it, this place could be a gem of a hotel. 😐
